Redmond Police Department Proud to Honor 6-Year-Old Della as "Chief for a Day"

Redmond, WALocal News

The Redmond Police Department will honor six-year-old Della as its 2025 Chief for a Day, part of a statewide initiative that recognizes children with life-threatening medical conditions. Organized by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission, the program grants honorary titles and unique experiences to these brave children. Della lives with Xeroderma Pigmentosum Cockayne Syndrome Complex, a rare disorder affecting only 43 documented cases globally. Despite her challenges, including extreme sensitivity to sunlight, Della’s resilience and positive outlook inspire those around her. Chief Darrell Lowe emphasized the importance of celebrating Della's spirit, which embodies community values.

The event is scheduled for August 28, 2025, at the WSCJTC campus in Burien, WA, where Della will be recognized alongside peers from 16 law enforcement agencies statewide. To further support Della, the Redmond Police Department encourages donations through the Redmond Police Benevolent Fund. Contributions will help cover her medical expenses and provide experiences that cater to her interests, such as horseback riding and visits to her favorite play center.
