Redmond Launches First-Ever Tree Giveaway

Redmond, WALocal News

The City of Redmond is launching its inaugural free tree giveaway to enhance the urban forest and achieve a 40% tree canopy cover by 2050, as outlined in the Tree Canopy Strategic Plan. Mayor Angela Birney stated that trees contribute significantly to community health and environmental sustainability. The city plans to distribute 500 trees to residents, local organizations, and small businesses with fewer than 25 employees. Applications for the tree giveaway are required, and the event is scheduled for September 27, 2025. Educational materials will guide participants in selecting, planting, and caring for their trees.

Volunteer opportunities will be available for those interested in participating in a community planting event with Green Redmond in October. This initiative aligns with the Environmental Sustainability Action Plan, which aims to mitigate climate change impacts. The tree giveaway reflects the city’s commitment to fostering a greener and healthier environment for its residents.
