Over 300k bees found inside walls of historic Puyallup house

Puyallup, WALocal News

A plumbing company discovered over 350,000 bees inside the walls of a historic home built in the 1930s in Puyallup, Pierce County. Beekeeper Michael A. Pernorio removed the bees, sealing the entrance to prevent future infestations. Joe Bowers, owner of Bowers Plumbing and Remodel, remarked on the unexpected nature of the find, stating that the previous elderly owners likely did not hear the buzzing for years. Pernorio noted the abundance of space in older homes, which often lack insulation, allowing bees to thrive.

The initial removal occurred in July, with another 50,000 bees extracted recently. This incident underscores the challenges posed by urban wildlife and the need for homeowners to address infestations quickly. The historical significance of the property adds an intriguing layer to the story, as such homes often hold hidden surprises. Local residents express a mix of fascination and concern regarding the presence of such a large bee colony in a residential area.
