City Hosting Public Safety Building Ribbon Cutting August 14

Puyallup, WALocal News

Puyallup will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on August 14, 2025, to celebrate the construction of a new Public Safety Building aimed at modernizing law enforcement facilities. The current police headquarters, established in 1968, has become inadequate due to a population increase from 14,000 to over 43,000 residents. Mayor Jim Kastama noted the community's strong desire for effective public safety measures as a driving force behind the project. Chief Scott Engle emphasized that the new facility will allow for all officers to work together efficiently and provide essential resources for modern policing. The plan includes converting the existing building into a substation, maintaining police presence in downtown Puyallup.

The new structure will feature improved storage for evidence and equipment, addressing current inefficiencies. Construction is already underway, with completion expected in April 2026. The project represents a significant investment in the community’s safety and law enforcement capabilities.
