Puppy Causes Explosion, Injuring South Hill Man in Workshop

Puyallup, WALocal News

A severe explosion in a South Hill workshop occurred on November 24, 2024, injuring 59-year-old Ande Hamilton due to an accident involving his puppy, Lulu. The Cane Corso puppy accidentally knocked over a container of denatured alcohol, which ignited after coming into contact with a pellet stove, leading to a fire that completely destroyed the shop and five motorcycles. Hamilton, who was on a ventilator for precaution, suffered second-degree burns from his knees to his waist and is now recovering at home. His wife, Sabrina, a registered nurse, highlighted the challenges faced by firefighters due to the lack of a nearby fire hydrant, with the closest being nearly 400 feet away. The family is still waiting for their insurance company to respond regarding the significant property damage incurred.

Sabrina expressed her understanding of the public's curiosity, stating that the explosion would naturally raise questions. Local authorities have been limited in their responses, leading to frustration over transparency. The incident has raised broader safety concerns within the community.
