New Road Project Enhances Connectivity for Tehaleh Residents in Pierce County

Puyallup, WALocal News

The recently opened road connecting Falling Water Boulevard to Tehaleh Boulevard is part of a $150 million project aimed at improving transportation for the 11,000 residents of Tehaleh in Pierce County. Local officials, including Pierce County Council member Dave Morell, celebrated the milestone on December 13, 2024, after 25 years of planning and development. This extension is just the first phase of a broader effort that includes further road work expected to complete by 2027. The project will not only enhance local access but also support emergency vehicle routes, addressing long-standing safety concerns. Residents have voiced worries about the existing traffic on state Route 162, which poses challenges for commuters and emergency evacuations.

In response, Morell indicated that a study is underway to explore the addition of a third lane to alleviate congestion further. Community leaders are optimistic about the economic growth that the new road will facilitate, connecting Bonney Lake to nearby urban centers. However, there are realistic concerns about traffic delays during the interim period until all improvements are finalized.
