WA deputies arrest 4 teens accused of throwing rocks at homeless people
Pierce County deputies arrested three teenagers in Spanaway, Washington, for allegedly throwing rocks at homeless individuals early Wednesday morning. Deputies received a call from a homeless woman living in a trailer who reported being targeted by occupants of a white SUV. As deputies interviewed her, the SUV passed by again, prompting a traffic stop attempt. The driver, an 18-year-old male, turned off the headlights and fled down a dead-end road before being apprehended. He faces charges of second-degree assault and felony eluding, while two 16-year-old boys and a 15-year-old boy were also taken into custody but later released to their parents.
The sheriff's office emphasized the importance of protecting vulnerable community members, especially in light of rising tensions surrounding homelessness. This incident underscores ongoing discussions about safety and the treatment of homeless individuals in Pierce County. Local advocacy groups may respond by calling for increased protections and resources for those living on the streets.
