Palouse woman confesses to fatal crash near Davenport
Jade A. Ellsworth, a 29-year-old from Palouse, was sentenced to one year and three months in jail for causing a fatal crash that claimed the lives of three Davenport men last summer. She pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide after failing to yield at a stop sign, citing sun glare as a contributing factor. The crash occurred in June 2024, when Ellsworth collided with the victims' vehicle while exceeding the speed limit. Families of the victims expressed their anguish in court, urging consideration for Ellsworth's young daughter.
Ellsworth conveyed her remorse, stating she constantly thinks about the victims and their families. The prosecution's recommendation for a year and a day in prison contrasted with the defense's request for a community custody alternative. Judge Barkdull emphasized the importance of sending a message about public safety and responsible driving behavior. His ruling reflected a broader concern regarding compliance with driving laws, underscoring the consequences of reckless actions.
