Protests on the Palouse draw big crowds
Protests in Moscow and Pullman on Saturday drew between 1,800 and 2,000 participants who rallied against President Trump's administration during the nationwide “No Kings” protest. Organizer Marilyn Beckett, 71, emphasized the importance of standing up for civil liberties, recalling historical instances of political repression. Catherine Ulibarri, 66, praised the enthusiasm and creativity displayed by participants, who carried signs advocating for democracy and compassion. The gatherings remained peaceful, with many motorists expressing support through honks, while a few voiced dissent. Beckett criticized the administration for undermining democratic institutions and fostering misinformation.
Ulibarri noted that the protests were also a celebration of Flag Day, reinforcing the message of civic engagement. The event highlighted local concerns over governance and accountability, with community members advocating for their rights. Overall, the protests reflected a significant mobilization of citizens seeking to hold their leaders accountable and promote democratic values.
