UPDATE AT 256 A.M. Lewiston man, 80, dies after being struck by vehicle on 21st Street in Lewiston

An 80-year-old man, Dennis M. Diaz, died after being struck by a pickup truck while crossing 21st Street in Lewiston on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred around 9:27 p. m. in the 1700 block, just south of Taco Bell, where Diaz was crossing outside of a designated crosswalk.

The driver, Shawn P. Miller, 48, of Lenore, was operating a 2003 Ford F-150 that struck Diaz as he attempted to cross the busy four-lane road. Witnessing the collision, Lewiston Police Sgt. Michael Topp initiated medical assistance immediately, but Diaz succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Lewiston Police Department's Major Collision Investigation Team is currently investigating the incident, which closed the roadway for approximately three hours.

Authorities are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the accident, asking them to contact Sgt. Craig Roberts at (208) 746-0171. This tragic event highlights the dangers of crossing busy streets without using designated crosswalks. Local residents may need to consider pedestrian safety measures in the area following this incident.
