Drawbridge incident causes lock closure

Pullman, WALocal News

A pickup truck became stuck on a drawbridge at Little Goose Dam, causing a temporary closure of the navigation lock. This incident occurred around 9:30 p. m. on Monday while dam operators were locking the cruise ship American Song through the dam. One of the janitorial workers attempted to leave as the barrier arms were closing, resulting in their truck becoming trapped.

The driver exited the vehicle unharmed, but the truck slid backward into a gap and remained stuck. The lock reopened around 1:15 p. m. on Tuesday after the truck was removed, but it is unclear if the cruise ship passengers reboarded or were bused to their next destination. The Columbia County Sheriff’s office documented the incident, which highlights the operational challenges at the dam.

This closure affected navigation in the area, potentially impacting local maritime schedules.
