A patriotic tradition at Theon

The ninth annual Theon Military Flag Ceremony attracted hundreds in Asotin, Washington, on May 24, 2025, honoring U. S. military veterans with a series of commemorative events. Originating in 2016 from the gift of a flagpole, the ceremony has grown into a significant community event featuring a potluck barbecue and auctions that raise funds for the Idaho Veterans Assistance League. Organizer Travis Polek highlighted the gathering's role in preserving the true essence of Memorial Day.

Attendees participated in a “Missing Man Ceremony,” which honored soldiers lost in combat, and listened to speeches that celebrated the sacrifices made by veterans. Vintage fighter planes, flown by a local resident, added a dramatic touch as they flew overhead during the ceremony. The event underscores the local community's commitment to honoring military service and sacrifice. It serves as a vital reminder of the freedoms that veterans fought to protect. The gathering not only strengthens community bonds but also raises awareness and funds for veterans' assistance programs.
