Port receives grant for electric charging stations at Oakesdale Mill site
The Port of Whitman County has received a $40,000 Charge Where You Are grant from the Washington State Department of Ecology to install electric vehicle chargers at the Oakesdale Mill site. The project will include two dual-port charging stations, enabling four Level 2 charging hubs that can fully charge an electric vehicle in four to ten hours. These stations will be accessible to the public for a fee, increasing access to EV chargers along Washington State Route 27, a vital route between Pullman and Spokane. The port anticipates the installation will be completed by summer 2026, addressing the growing need for EV infrastructure in the area. This initiative aligns with Washington's broader efforts to promote electric vehicle usage and reduce carbon emissions.
Increasing the availability of charging stations is essential as more residents transition to electric vehicles. It also supports local businesses and tourism by providing convenient charging options for travelers. Ultimately, this grant represents a significant step towards enhancing the region's sustainability and energy efficiency.
