UI, LCSC tuition increases approved
The Idaho State Board of Education approved a 3. 5% tuition increase for the University of Idaho (UI) and Lewis-Clark State College (LCSC) on Friday. Full-time resident undergraduates at UI will pay $9,400 next school year, while LCSC students will pay $7,876. Kim Salisbury, UI's associate vice president of budget and planning, explained that the increase is necessary to cover rising costs such as wage increases, software licensing, and compliance mandates. Since 2019, UI has faced a decrease of 79 full-time employees while enrollment has grown by 542 students, highlighting the challenge of managing resources efficiently.
Additionally, nonresident undergraduates at UI will pay $28,636, and graduate residents will pay $11,132 next year. The SBOE also approved similar tuition increases for Boise State University and Idaho State University. Federal grant funding for UI remains uncertain, following cuts including a terminated $59 million agricultural grant from the USDA. A UI team is currently modeling the future of federal grant funding to anticipate upcoming challenges.
