Local League of Women Voters holds artist reception today for youth competition
The Neill Public Library is set to host an artists’ reception today at 2 p. m. to celebrate the 2025 Visual Arts Competition, organized by the League of Women Voters of Pullman and Whitman County. This competition invited students in grades 3 through 12 to submit artwork that aligns with the theme “Native America and the USA. ” The submissions aim to illuminate the legal, federal, and cultural relationships between the U.
S. and Native America, emphasizing themes of Indigenous resilience and modern identity. An awards ceremony will recognize outstanding pieces, with prizes including a $50 gift card for local businesses and a copy of the League's civics textbook, “The State We’re In: Washington. ” The league will also serve Native American-made fry bread and huckleberry jam, enriching the event's cultural significance. This initiative not only showcases young talent but also promotes awareness and appreciation of Indigenous culture within the community.
Attendees are encouraged to explore the artwork and engage with the themes presented, fostering a deeper understanding of the relationship between Native America and the U. S.
