City Ordinance Passed Amending Definition of Accessory Living Quarters

Pullman, WALocal News

The Pullman City Council has enacted Ordinance 23-17, revising the definition of accessory living quarters to enhance residential flexibility. This ordinance, passed on November 28th, allows for living quarters, such as guest houses with kitchen facilities, to be situated within an accessory or principal building without restrictions on use by family or employees. The previous definition limited these quarters to the family's use, which could hinder homeowners' options. Importantly, this amendment does not impact short-term rental regulations, keeping existing platforms like Airbnb and Vrbo unaffected. A public hearing held by the Planning Commission on October 25th demonstrated community involvement and interest in the topic.

By adapting zoning regulations, the city aims to better serve its residents and accommodate changing housing needs. This move is expected to foster a more dynamic residential environment in Pullman. The ordinance reflects the city council's responsiveness to evolving community demands.
