City Activates Additional Cooling Center for Sunday, July 21
In response to a heatwave with temperatures predicted to reach the upper 90s and low 100s, the City of Pullman will activate an additional cooling center at the Pullman Senior Center on Sunday, July 21, 2024. The Senior Center, located at 190 SE Crestview Street, will operate from 12:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m.
to provide residents with a safe, air-conditioned environment amid the extreme heat. This measure is necessary as the Neill Public Library will be closed that day, leaving many without a place to cool off. The Senior Center will offer essential amenities such as public restrooms and drinking water, with access limited to service animals only. Meanwhile, the Neill Public Library will continue to serve as a cooling option during its regular hours for those who can visit before or after Sunday. Residents in need of transportation to either location are encouraged to check current transit routes available on the Pullman Transit website.
This proactive step by the city underscores its commitment to community health and safety during adverse weather conditions. For further inquiries, residents can contact the Communications Coordinator, Meghan Ferrin.
