The department stresses that the responsibility for enforcing federal immigration laws lies with the United States Customs and Border Protection Services, not with local police. Pullman Police Officers are sworn to uphold the U. S. Constitution and Washington State law, specifically RCW 10.

93. 160, which prohibits local law enforcement from investigating immigration status solely. The department rejects any politicization of its role, asserting that local police authority is not influenced by political agendas. Importantly, the Pullman Police Department aims to build trust and positive relationships within the community, including with undocumented individuals. The department states that there will be no disparate treatment of any community member or visitor.
