Prisoners enjoy the final Thanksgiving at the old Asotin County Jail
Inmates at the Asotin County Jail enjoyed a Thanksgiving meal organized by the prosecutor's office, continuing a tradition that spans over 25 years. Prosecutor Curt Liedkie highlighted the importance of this event in honoring the legacies of former prosecutors Ray Lutes and Ben Nichols. Sheriff John Hilderbrand emphasized the positive impact on inmate morale, especially during the holiday season. Many inmates, including Thomas Krogman and David Wheeler Jr. , expressed gratitude for the meal while reflecting on their circumstances.
This year's dinner was largely homemade, thanks to three trustee inmates who began cooking early in the morning. The meal served at the downtown facility will be the last, as the jail prepares to relocate to a new justice complex. The Thanksgiving tradition is expected to continue in the new facility, albeit in a different setting. Webber, the office manager, reiterated the importance of treating inmates with dignity, stating, "The men and women in jail are people, too.
