Stretch of Highway 12 to close again today as rock work continues
U. S. Highway 12 will close today from 9 a. m. to 5 p.
m. for ongoing rock scaling to remove hazardous rocks near the Clearwater River. Crews will employ inflatable air bags to dislodge the rocks, with traffic managed by flaggers to allow at least one lane to reopen after work is completed. Mark Pfeifer from the Idaho Department of Transportation noted that this location has been closely monitored due to slope movement, prompting it to become an emergency project. The primary goal is to safeguard motorists while ensuring that rock removal occurs in a controlled manner without damaging the highway.
The agency has routinely prioritized areas that show signs of geological instability. Updates regarding the closure will be available on the agency's travel website and social media platforms. The public's adaptability in response to this dynamic situation has been acknowledged. Such proactive measures are part of ongoing efforts to maintain safe travel conditions in the region.
