No injuries reported in Moscow house fire Monday
A house fire in Moscow on Monday morning left one adult and three pets unharmed after a successful evacuation. Firefighters arrived shortly after 9 a. m. to smoke billowing from the eaves and roof vents. They located the fire in a crawl space beneath the bathroom, where it spread to a wall and attic.
The cause is under investigation, but it may have started near cabinetry on the bathroom floor. Firefighters utilized chain saws to gain access to the fire, which was complicated by the home's early-1900s construction that can conceal hazardous voids. Traffic was blocked on C and Washington streets while crews worked to control the blaze. Fortunately, the Palouse Habitat for Humanity building nearby remained undamaged. This incident highlights the risks associated with older homes and the challenges firefighters face in such situations.
