Moscow Middle School starts first girls wrestling team
Moscow Middle School has launched its first all-girls wrestling team, attracting 37 participants eager to promote the sport in Idaho. Coach Matthew Haley asserts a strong commitment to developing girls wrestling locally. The program benefits from assistant coach Skyla Zimmerman, a two-time state champion, who has inspired interest in the sport. The team's goal is to encourage girls to compete at the high school level and eventually in college. Eighth-grader Solveig Hunter shared her enthusiasm for being part of this movement, noting the confidence gained through the experience.
Similarly, Taylor Edwards mentioned that wrestling has helped her overcome shyness. Sixth-grader Hazel Luvaas expressed a desire to test her strength and toughness through the sport. The upcoming “Queen of the Mat” tournament at Moscow Middle School will further highlight the team's achievements and foster community support for girls wrestling.
