Council OKs proposed Moscow airsoft business
The Moscow City Council approved a 4-2 vote Monday for an airsoft shooting range on Lauder Avenue, allowing an exception to city laws that ban discharging weapons. Christopher King, the applicant, plans to implement strict safety protocols, including mandatory eye and face protection for customers. Individuals aged 10 to 16 must be accompanied by a parent, while those under 10 are not permitted on the playfield. Concerns about safety were voiced by council members, particularly regarding the visibility of realistic-looking airsoft guns in public areas. Councilor Hailey Lewis recognized these concerns but highlighted the facility's proximity to the Moscow Police Department.
King stressed that staff will ensure all weapons are airsoft guns, even if they have orange tips. The facility aims to provide a safe environment for team activities and recreational shooting. This decision marks a significant shift in local policy regarding airsoft and similar activities in urban settings.
