Moscow candidates talk housing, water and transportation
Candidates for the Moscow City Council emphasized housing and water availability during two public forums this week. They agreed on securing an alternative water source to support the local aquifer and proposed establishing a quasi-governmental housing authority to develop affordable housing. John Slagboom referred to a 2019 housing assessment indicating the need for hundreds of new homes annually to meet demand. Candidates advocated for improved zoning codes and infill housing to attract more residents and bolster the workforce. Taruscio stressed the need for better communication with Latah County regarding the outdated jail facilities, which require significant upgrades.
The discussions also included enhancing multimodal transportation options, with candidates proposing more crosswalks and promoting bike safety.
