Orofino man sustains minor injuries in crash near Elk River

Phillip Wilman, 70, of Orofino, sustained minor injuries when his truck flipped over after he fell asleep while driving on Idaho Highway 8 near Elk River. The crash occurred last Thursday around 11 a. m. near milepost 49, about four miles west of Elk River. Wilman did not require hospitalization following the incident.

The Clearwater County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the Fish and Game hatchery vehicle left the roadway and landed on its side. The highway remained closed for several hours, with full reopening occurring at approximately 6:30 p. m. This incident highlights the significant risks associated with drowsy driving, which can lead to serious accidents. Local authorities encourage drivers to prioritize rest to ensure safety on the roads.

The sheriff’s office released a statement to raise awareness about the dangers of fatigue while driving.
