A Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office deputy, Dale Law, tragically died in a UTV crash near Elk River on Friday morning. The Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Law was ejected from the vehicle after it rolled off an old logging road. Authorities received a report of an overdue person on a UTV around 1:41 a. m. , prompting a search involving multiple agencies and local hunters.

The search utilized pickups, UTVs, a drone, and a helicopter, demonstrating the urgency and scale of the operation. The missing UTV was located at noon near the South Fork of Robinson Creek, but Law was pronounced deceased. Law, a 43-year-old resident of Hayden, Idaho, served in law enforcement, highlighting the risks faced by officers in the line of duty. The incident raises awareness about the hazards associated with off-road vehicle use in rugged terrain. Community members are reminded to prioritize safety while engaging in outdoor activities.
