Fireworks mortar suspected as cause of Pullman apartment fire

Pullman, WALocal News

Fireworks likely ignited a fire in a Pullman apartment complex, damaging seven units and prompting the evacuation of all residents. Authorities allege that 40-year-old Elijah Reagan discharged fireworks from a mortar inside his apartment, leading to the blaze. During a police chase, Reagan, who reportedly was under the influence of methamphetamine, drove erratically before being apprehended. Court documents reveal that Reagan had a shotgun during an armed standoff and admitted to bombing his apartment in a call to his estranged wife. He was booked into jail with a cash bond set at $250,000.

An American Red Cross shelter has been established for displaced residents, indicating the fire's significant impact on the community. Judge Roger Sandberg scheduled Reagan's arraignment for Friday morning. The incident underscores concerns about safety and substance abuse in residential areas.
