Fireworks mortar suspected as cause of Pullman apartment fire

Pullman, WALocal News

Fireworks ignited an explosion that led to a fire in a Pullman apartment building, resulting in the arrest of 40-year-old Elijah Reagan for first-degree arson. Court documents allege that Reagan fired fireworks from a mortar inside his unit, which blew a hole through the ceiling and ignited neighboring apartments. During a subsequent armed standoff, authorities discovered Reagan was under the influence of methamphetamine and armed with a shotgun, which he discharged. The fire damaged at least seven units, prompting the evacuation of all residents from the complex. An American Red Cross shelter was established at the Pullman Senior Center to assist displaced individuals.

Reagan was apprehended after a police chase that ended when his tires were spiked. He faces a $250,000 cash bond and is scheduled for arraignment on Friday morning. The incident underscores concerns about safety and substance abuse in the community.
