UPDATED AT 927 P.M. Man injured in shooting is WSU football player suspect's attorney says it was self-defense
Jakori Buchanan, a University of Washington student, is the subject of a felony warrant following a shooting incident that left Uilisone Falealo, a 19-year-old Washington State University football player, injured. The incident occurred during a party in Pullman early Sunday morning, where a confrontation ensued after Buchanan allegedly assaulted a female guest. His attorney, Ronnie Rae, contends that Buchanan acted in self-defense, stating he and his cousin faced a brutal attack. Falealo has been treated for a gunshot wound to the abdomen and released from the hospital, but he suffered severe injuries, including a collapsed lung. The Pullman Police Department is actively searching for Buchanan, who is believed to be in western Washington, and has confirmed his enrollment status is unknown.
Surveillance footage from the scene reportedly shows Buchanan swinging a firearm before the gunshot. The police found a 9mm pistol cartridge casing at the scene, indicating the use of a firearm. Authorities urge anyone with information about Buchanan's whereabouts to contact the Pullman Police Department.
