WSU TRIO Student Support Services receives 8.2M grant
Washington State University’s TRIO Student Support Services programs secured $8. 2 million in renewed grant funding from the U. S. Department of Education. This grant will support the programs for an additional five years, allowing them to continue providing essential academic support, tutoring, and mentorship.
Established in 2001, the services primarily assist students from limited-income households, first-generation college backgrounds, and those with disabilities. Ali Bretthauer, director of WSU's college success programs, highlighted the impact of these programs on student persistence and graduation rates. The funding underscores WSU’s commitment to fostering equitable access to education. In the past, TRIO programs have significantly improved the academic outcomes of participating students. The renewed grant also aligns with national efforts to enhance support for underrepresented student populations in higher education.
This initiative is crucial for sustaining the academic and career development of disadvantaged students across Washington.
