One last go a champion, but the family legacy rides on
Clyde Longfellow, an Idaho Hall of Fame Cowboy, will have his ashes spread at the Lewiston Roundup grounds on Sunday, fulfilling his final wishes. His daughter Kelly and granddaughter Makayla are continuing his rodeo legacy, competing in barrel racing and breakaway roping, respectively. Longfellow passed away on July 15 at age 83 and was a notable rodeo champion, winning the Lewiston Roundup Saddle Bronc event in 1974 and 1980. He developed his rodeo skills at the Lewiston Roundup grounds, inspired by local rodeo legends despite having no family background in the sport. The bucking horse for his tribute ride will be provided by a company co-founded by his friend Donald Hutsell.
Both Kelly and Makayla are training hard for their competitions while grieving their loss, with plans to participate in the Pendleton Roundup the following week. Edie Longfellow, Clyde's wife, remains active in the rodeo community at age 80, further solidifying the family's deep ties to the sport. Clyde's legacy continues to inspire his family and the local rodeo community.
