The Gladish to close next month
The Gladish Community and Cultural Center will close its doors on September 15, as confirmed by Friends of the Gladish President David Harder. Rising overhead costs, exceeding $20,000 to $40,000 monthly, and the loss of significant tenants led to the decision. The Pullman Community Montessori, a key occupant, was closed by the Washington State Charter School last May, impacting the center's financial stability. Harder noted that the building's aging infrastructure, particularly the central boiler system, has become increasingly problematic. The organization had aimed to launch a $10 million Center for the Arts project, but financial constraints forced them to put it on hold.
A Save the Gladish campaign was initiated to raise $1 million for debt reduction and reconstruction efforts. While the physical space will close, Friends of the Gladish will assist tenants in relocation and continue accepting donations for community initiatives. The fate of several organizations associated with the Gladish remains uncertain as the nonprofit works with a commercial real estate broker to sell the facility.
