Pullman home damaged by a cooking fire

Pullman, WALocal News

On Saturday evening, a cooking fire caused damage to a Pullman home, ignited by grease while frying potatoes. The Pullman Fire Department quickly responded, with 13 firefighters arriving within eight minutes to contain the blaze to one room. Fire Marshal Darren Jones confirmed that the family and their cats escaped safely, with minimal damage reported in the kitchen. Cooking fires are the most prevalent type of incidents for Pullman firefighters, highlighting a common safety concern. This fire follows another kitchen incident in the area two weeks ago, where an unattended pan caused damage but no injuries.

Jones urges residents to stay vigilant while cooking and to maintain accessible fire extinguishers. He advised against using water on a cooking fire and instead suggested covering it or using a fire extinguisher. If flames become unmanageable, he stressed the importance of calling 911 and evacuating the area immediately.
