Moscows new East City Park stage takes next step

Pullman, WALocal News

The Moscow City Council approved a budget of $885,000 for a new event stage at East City Park, paving the way for construction to potentially begin in fall 2025. The project aims to replace a deteriorated stage that posed safety risks, with plans to enhance audience experience through improved seating and sight lines. City staff engaged local event organizers and residents, reporting overwhelming support for the new design despite some concerns voiced by a council member. Councilmember Hailey Lewis criticized the design as "soulless" and expressed fears regarding safety and maintenance. Architect Ned Warnick highlighted the opportunity to incorporate artwork and color, ensuring the stage remains low-maintenance.

The new structure will feature storage for equipment and power for lighting, but performers will need to supply their own gear. The construction involves landscape grading and pathway alterations to minimize disruptions during events. This project reflects a commitment to enhancing community spaces while addressing safety concerns.
