Crews battling Deary wildfire

A wildfire burning northeast of Deary has expanded to 130 acres and is currently zero percent contained. The Latah County Sheriff’s Office reports no structures are threatened, and evacuations have not been ordered at this time. Approximately 80 personnel, supported by two helicopters, two air tankers, and a single-engine plane, are actively battling the blaze, which ignited Monday night in an active logging area. The rapid increase in fire activity was reported Tuesday morning, prompting authorities to request the public stay off Brush Creek Road to facilitate emergency access. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and residents are advised to prepare go-bags and emergency plans.

Local officials emphasize the importance of readiness in light of the ongoing fire threats. Additionally, crews successfully contained the Gibb Fire near Lewiston, achieving 100% containment by the evening. Wildfires pose significant risks to communities, highlighting the need for vigilance during fire season.
