Palouse Regional Transportation Planning Organization adopts Whitman County Truck Route Study

Pullman, WALocal News

The Palouse Regional Transportation Planning Organization adopted the Whitman County Truck and Freight Study to address freight traffic issues in downtown Pullman. The study recommends three diversion routes: Bishop Boulevard, projected to cost $7. 65 million; Sand Road-Kirkendahl Road, estimated at $18. 9 million; and Albion Road, requiring $9. 2 million in improvements.

Developed with the Washington State Department of Transportation, the study incorporated feedback from 175 community members who participated in a public open house earlier this year. This project aims to enhance traffic flow and safety, reflecting local concerns about congestion. The study's findings are now accessible online for residents and stakeholders. By investing in these improvements, local officials hope to foster better transportation infrastructure in the region. The total estimated cost for implementing the proposed routes exceeds $35 million.

Such actions could lead to long-term benefits for the community, including reduced travel times and improved air quality.
