Looking back at Breakheart Pass

Pullman, WALocal News

“Breakheart Pass,” a Western film featuring Charles Bronson, was shot in north central Idaho fifty years ago, with key scenes filmed on the Camas Prairie Railroad. The film crew's presence transformed local attitudes, as they participated in events like a charity basketball game at Lewis-Clark State College. The movie premiered at the Liberty Theater in Lewiston on February 12, 1976, attended by notable figures including Idaho Gov. Cecil Andrus. A local reporter noted how the film crew’s arrival lifted spirits during the winter months.

To honor the film’s legacy, the Tribune plans a retrospective and invites community members to share their stories related to the film's production. Stories should be concise, no longer than 250 words, and submitted by July 25. Managing Editor Matt Baney can be contacted for submissions via email or phone. This initiative aims to reconnect the community with a memorable chapter in its history.
