A violent ambush in Idaho leaves 2 firefighters dead and 1 injured

On June 29, 2025, an ambush near Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, resulted in the deaths of two firefighters and left another severely injured. Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris stated that the brush fire was intentionally set to trap first responders. Upon arrival, the firefighters were met with gunfire, and law enforcement exchanged shots with the assailant. Cellphone data led authorities to the suspect, who was found deceased near the scene with a weapon. The investigation is ongoing, with officials anticipating the discovery of more weapons linked to the shooter.

The deceased included members from both the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department and Kootenai County Fire and Rescue. The names of the victims and the suspect remain undisclosed as authorities await confirmation. A procession accompanied the fallen firefighters’ bodies to the medical examiner's office in Spokane, Washington.
