Portland rolls out basic sidewalk cleaning service

Portland, ORLocal News

Portland will implement a free sidewalk cleaning service starting in October 2025, focusing on major business corridors and high-impact areas. The initiative, led by the Public Environment Management Office (PEMO), uses trikes and trucks to maintain cleanliness and safety in busy locations. Crews will regularly remove trash, biohazards, and graffiti, contributing to healthier environments for families and vulnerable populations. The City Council allocated $1. 7 million to support this program, which builds on previous collaborations in the Gateway Service District.

Local contractors Central City Concern and Cultivate will perform the cleaning tasks. The service aims to increase foot traffic in business districts, enhancing community engagement. Residents can report issues or suggest additional cleaning routes by contacting PEMO. This effort underscores the city’s commitment to fostering a cleaner and safer environment for all.
