Driving slow in the left lane? Arizona law has something to say about that

Phoenix, AZLocal News

Arizona law prohibits drivers from traveling below the posted speed limit if it impedes traffic flow, particularly in the left lane. According to Arizona Revised Statutes 28-704, drivers must pull over to designated turnouts to avoid blocking traffic. A proposed House Bill 2235 sought to introduce a $500 civil penalty for slow left-lane drivers and install signs indicating that the left lane is for passing only. These signs would read "Left lane for passing only, slow traffic keep right" and warn of the potential fine. Other states like New York have enacted similar laws, known as 'Slow Poke' laws, to manage left-lane traffic more effectively.

The Arizona state legislature is examining these measures to improve road safety and reduce congestion. Drivers are advised to comply with existing laws to promote smoother traffic flow. By addressing slow left-lane driving, Arizona aims to enhance overall road safety for all motorists.
