City College for Municipal Employment (CCME) Announces New Partner Organizations to Address Talent Gaps and Upskilling Needs

Mayor Cherelle L. Parker announced a $2 million investment to enhance workforce development through the City College for Municipal Employment (CCME) in Philadelphia. The funding will be distributed among four organizations, including the Center for Black Educator Development and Unite Here Philly, to support training in education, social work, and hospitality. CCME currently offers free skills training in multiple fields, aiming to fill talent gaps in critical local industries. Parker highlighted the necessity of training diverse professionals to improve community health and ensure economic stability.

The initiative is expected to create quality job pathways for residents, especially with increased tourism anticipated in 2026. Dr. Debora Carrera, Chief Education Officer, emphasized the strategic partnerships' role in fostering student success and economic opportunities. Additionally, Dr. Tony Watlington, Superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia, reiterated the importance of cultivating future educators.

This investment not only addresses immediate workforce needs but also builds a foundation for long-term community growth.
