City, PPA to Install First Phase of Spruce and Pine Bike Lane Safety Upgrades Project

Philadelphia, PALocal News

The City of Philadelphia will begin installing new loading zones and “No Stopping Anytime” signs along the Spruce and Pine streets corridor on June 5, 2025. The Philadelphia Parking Authority will enforce these regulations starting June 19, with fines of $125 for violations in Center City and University City. This initiative follows Council President Kenyatta Johnson’s ‘Get Out the Bike Lane’ legislation, aimed at improving bike lane safety in response to rising injuries and fatalities among cyclists. The project seeks to provide dedicated loading spaces without obstructing bike lanes, addressing the needs of motorists and delivery services. A community engagement process gathered input from nearly 400 residents, resulting in recommendations for this infrastructure upgrade.

The initiative also includes collaboration with various stakeholders, including community organizations and the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission. The Spruce & Pine Stakeholder Working Group has been actively involved in discussing the project and planning future phases. This effort reflects a commitment to enhancing safety and accessibility for all roadway users in the city.
