Coyote sightings increase in the Philadelphia suburbs as the population grows

Philadelphia, PALocal News

Authorities in Montgomery County, Pa. are warning residents about a rise in coyote sightings as their population grows. Police in Lansdale and Upper Merion Township have issued notifications regarding the increasing presence of these animals. Game Warden Matthew Johnson explained that coyotes are nocturnal and may become more visible as food sources diminish in winter. Although attacks on humans are rare, smaller pets are vulnerable to coyote encounters.

Local residents have reported seeing coyotes from a distance, with some noting their presence on surveillance cameras. Upper Merion Police have provided safety tips, advising residents to keep a safe distance and secure pets, especially during dawn and dusk when coyotes are most active. Authorities emphasize the importance of educating children on how to respond if they encounter a coyote.
