Working to eliminate hepatitis through collaboration

Philadelphia, PALocal News

Philadelphia organizations are collaborating to combat viral hepatitis, emphasizing the need for testing, vaccination, and treatment. During Hepatitis Awareness Month in May, they highlight successful initiatives like Drexel HOPE’s mobile clinic, which provides accessible hepatitis C treatment to some of the city’s most vulnerable residents. Broad Street Love addresses healthcare access challenges for individuals facing housing instability and legal issues by offering comprehensive, individualized services. Community advocates are instrumental in raising awareness, encouraging friends and family to get tested, and promoting vaccination and treatment. Since 2013, the number of people cured of hepatitis C has significantly increased, showcasing the progress made in the fight against these viruses.

Despite this, there are still gaps in screening and education that need to be addressed. Efforts must continue to reach underserved populations and remove persistent barriers to care. Eliminating hepatitis B and C remains a critical public health goal for Philadelphia’s healthcare community.
