Citizens Police Oversight Commission Names Civil Rights Attorney Ewuare Osayande as Deputy Executive Director

The Citizens Police Oversight Commission (CPOC) appointed Ewuare Osayande, Esq. as its new Deputy Executive Director. Osayande, a civil rights attorney with over three decades of experience, is committed to racial justice and police reform. “Police accountability must be rooted in truth, justice, and a deep belief in the humanity of all people,” Osayande stated. His past activism includes leading a 100-mile march for justice in 1990 after the police killing of a teenager, which garnered national attention.

Osayande has held prestigious positions, including Chief Diversity Officer at the American Friends Service Committee, where he conducted a racial justice audit. He also lectured at various universities on systemic racism and police reform. As Deputy Executive Director, Osayande will support CPOC's mission to enhance police oversight and elevate community voices, focusing on accountability and equity. His extensive experience positions him to impact the ongoing discourse around policing in Philadelphia.
