The grand reopening of the Lawrence E. Murphy Recreation Center in South Philadelphia marked the completion of a $7. 5 million renovation, funded by the City’s Rebuild Program and Live! Casino & Hotel. The event featured Eagles legend Ron Jaworski as emcee and showcased a ceremonial ribbon cutting with local youth sports teams.

Mayor Cherelle L. Parker stated that the investment aims to keep young people active and safe, providing top-tier recreational facilities. The renovation includes synthetic turf fields, new basketball courts, and improved lighting, addressing the community's needs for modern sports amenities. Councilmember Mark Squilla expressed his joy, recalling his childhood experiences at the center and the benefits for future generations. Aparna Palantino, Deputy Managing Director, noted the extensive community engagement that guided the renovation process.

Craig Clark, General Manager of Live! Casino & Hotel, emphasized the importance of investing in the community’s future. The center now serves as a vital resource for South Philly’s youth, promoting active lifestyles and community building.
