The HPV vaccine, recommended for ages 9-26, is proven to be 97% effective in preventing cervical cancer when administered before sexual activity. Cervical cancer screenings, including Pap tests and HPV tests, are crucial for early detection and are recommended starting at age 21. Notably, over 20% of cervical cancer cases arise in women over 65, underscoring the importance of consistent screenings. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists supports vaccination and screening as essential preventive measures.

The City Health Centers provide free cervical Pap smears to facilitate access to these crucial health services. Women are urged to engage in discussions with their healthcare providers about the HPV vaccine and screening schedules. Prioritizing preventive healthcare could save lives, benefiting both individuals and their loved ones.
