The Shepard Recreation Center in Haddington is set to receive a $17 million renovation, marking a significant investment by the City of Philadelphia and the William Penn Foundation. Groundbreaking for the project was celebrated by local officials and community members, emphasizing the importance of quality recreational facilities for youth. The renovation will transform the existing 11,000-square-foot facility, adding new spaces and enhancing existing ones, including a gym and outdoor performance area. Mayor Cherelle L. Parker stressed that recreation centers serve as essential community resources.

Councilmember Curtis Jones Jr. expressed a commitment to ensuring inner-city youth have access to comparable facilities as their suburban peers. The project also received funding from various local and state sources, totaling over $2. 5 million. With extensive community engagement, the design aims to meet the needs of Haddington residents for the next century.
