Department of Prisons Celebrates Newest Graduates and Promotions Welcomes Largest Cadet Class in Its History

Philadelphia, PALocal News

The Philadelphia Department of Prisons (PDP) has achieved a significant increase in staffing levels, nearing pre-COVID-19 numbers through strategic recruitment efforts led by Commissioner Michael R. Resnick, Esq. Supported by the City of Philadelphia's Department of Human Resources, PDP celebrated the graduation of 53 new cadets and the promotion of 26 existing staff members last week. Councilmember Curtis Jones, Jr. praised the graduates for their commitment and highlighted the role of correctional officers in facilitating second chances for inmates.

In the past year, PDP has hired more than 300 correctional officers, reduced its officer vacancy rate by 13 percent, and successfully maintained low attrition rates. The department's new training academy and recruitment initiatives, including partnerships with national firms, bolster its staffing efforts. Commissioner Resnick addressed the largest cadet class in the department's history, which includes 71 trainees set to graduate in July. These developments reflect PDP's commitment to creating a safer and more compassionate correctional system. The department encourages potential candidates to consider careers in corrections, emphasizing opportunities for growth and impact.
