Title Clearance Unit helps grieving parent save sons home

Philadelphia, PALocal News

Deanna Henderson faced a daunting task after the death of her son, a Philadelphia firefighter, who passed away at just 36. The Title Clearance Unit (TCU) provided the necessary support to help her secure a new deed for his Northeast Philadelphia home. The process took approximately three months, and Henderson expressed her relief, stating, "It’s official now, you know. " Register of Wills John Sabatina leads the TCU, which focuses on helping families with tangled titles, a common issue in Philadelphia. Research indicates that thousands of homes in the city are affected by unclear titles, impacting generational wealth.

Henderson initially found the process frustrating and unclear but received effective assistance from the TCU, which offers personalized support. The unit helps constituents navigate legal requirements such as probate and title searches, ensuring families can stabilize their housing situation. The TCU's efforts aim to protect local neighborhoods and preserve the value of homes for future generations.
